Ideas to Decorate and Furnish a Bedroom
Before you start thinking about all the things, decorative items and furniture pieces you should buy, invest some time in working out what style you would like to go for. Think of how much storage you will need, as it’s an important issue, and then focus on the fact that a bedroom is a place to rest, so it needs to be comfortable, peaceful and warm.
The size of the bed will depend on the size of the room. Allow room for one or ideally two bedside tables, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. Then see how much space there is for the bed. If you can fit a super king bed, go for it! If not, you will have to settle for a standard double. Even if the bedroom is just for one person, and as long as there is enough room, don’t choose a single bed. They really small!
Not everybody is lucky enough to have a walk-in wardrobe, so for the ‘not lucky enough’ please think about all the clothes, shoes and accessories you have and that will need to be stored away.
Depending on how much stuff you have, you may only need a small wardrobe, but if you like to shop till you drop, you will probably need a large wardrobe and a chest of drawers too. So factor in the space needed for all this furniture, which is usually quite bulky.
Many people do a lot of reading in their bedroom, usually in bed. I love reading for half an hour before I go to sleep. It relaxes me, and it makes me sleepy! All you need is a bedside table to leave your books and maybe your reading glasses, and a practical bedside table lamp. You can also have a reading corner, providing your room is big enough. So a chaise lounge or a comfy armchair by a floor lamp would be ideal.
You will need a big mirror to check yourself.
You don’t want to leave the house looking unattractive! If you don’t have much room for it, you can fit a big mirror on the inside of the wardrobe door. Many wardrobes already come with a mirror inside, and others are mirrored fronted. These sorts of wardrobes are perfect.
But if you have a big bedroom you could get a beautiful screen and separate the bedroom, creating 2 atmospheres. One side revolving around the bed, and another one revolving around your wardrobe and clothes. Also, if you don’t always have time to tidy up, and some clothes are left outside the wardrobe, the screen will hide them! So your bedroom will look as lovely as ever.
Work and study
Many people use the bedroom to work or study too. You will need a practical desk for that. And again, a screen may come handy here as well, to separate to study area from the bed area. In my opinion the screen will be a must if you use a computer. Remember you want to create a relaxing surrounding. Computers aren’t relaxing at all, so hide them behind the screen.
All the above ideas are the basics for any room.
Once those are sorted, you should concentrate on accessories such as curtains, rugs, cushions, lamps, wall pictures etc… There are many items that will help you create a lovely space for your bedroom. Just remember to keep a consistent style and color scheme!
