Candy + Sea Shells + Coffee Filters = Cloche?????

My oldest daughter, Alex,  loves Ferrero Rocher Chocolates.  That is the only candy that she requests every year for her stocking.  And, of course, Santa brings it – He She likes it too!!!

This year he brought it in a bell shaped plastic container.  I knew before the candy was gone that it would be going in my craft box.

 

         

Questions were raised about my mental state when I asked G-Man not to throw away the container!  “You are going to do what with it??”  

 

 

Knowing that it would make the perfect cloche, I had to decide how to proceed.

Since everybody seems to have the winter doldrums, I thought I would create a summery cloche.  So, out came the box of sea shells and why not add some used coffee filters that everybody is using in creative ways lately!

 

       

I started by cutting out a piece of card board the same size as the base. 

 

 

I used a coffee filter to cover the top of the cardboard circle, and then glued another one on the bottom, bringing it over to the top to create a ruffle effect on the base.

It looks like baked filo dough here!!!

 

 

 

I couldn’t get all the glue off of the top of the bell where the bow was attached, so I decided to build a seashell finial to hide it.  

I started out with a shell that has little cups on it (don’t know scientific name).  I glued longer, twisty ones (these either!) inside the cups.

 

 

I glued the finial to the top of the dome, adding troca pearled shells to fill it out.

 

 

 

I happened to have a little footed trivet that fits the base perfectly.

 

 

A starfish is perfect to use as an easel for the flat glittered shell.

Sand around the starfish would have added a great touch.

 

It’s hard to stop playing when I’m in crafter’s mode.

So, I tried….

photos of the kids when they were little – couldn’t find a beach photo!

 

 

And,  this little porcelain cup belonged to my mother when she was young!

 

I am leaving the little cup in it for now.  I have been missing my mom a lot lately.
